I was lucky enough to be staying with an Ukraine family in Rivne, northern Ukraine when one of the daughters celebrated a birthday.
I was amazed when the daughter did not receive a birthday present, but instead bought a present for her mother.
I asked her about this and she said that in Ukraine the children buy their mother a present on the children’s birthday as a thank you to the mother for giving them life
How wonderful is that? Makes perfect sense to me.
