December 19th is known as Saint Nicholas day which is the first of the New Years holidays in Ukraine. It is a time where you can show your love and care to your family, friends and neighbours. It is a very special time for children as gifts are normally left on their pillow while they sleep – but only for children who have been good throughout the year! The gifts are traditionally sweets and chocolates.
New Year is celebrated by all Ukraine people in much the same way as every else in the world – except with much more fun and festivities! Ukraine people celebrate New Year in a BIG way!
Christmas in Ukraine is different from our traditional Christmas – they celebrate it on January 7th.
