Online Dating Protocol You Need to Know

Online Dating

When it comes to online dating, many adults feel that they divulge too much information about themselves and end up wishing they should have known better. However, there are also some people who are comfortable sharing their information online. So when it comes to deciding what is more appropriate in using online dating sites or social media in general, there are rules or protocols that everyone should follow.

1. Be authentic and genuine

This is one of the most important things you should do and that is to remain truthful. Your online self should reflect your real self. It is hard to pretend to be someone you are not.

2. Create an engaging profile

While you want to stay real to yourself, you still, of course, have to make your profile engaging so that it piques people’s interest and make them want to know more about you. You can do that by choosing the right words and choosing how you say it. Instead of sharing the things you love to do, describe what you love about them. You should also maintain a happy and positive tone because positive people are more attractive. Avoid sounding sarcastic. If you are not sure about what you are posting, it is better not to post it.

3. Meet as many people as you can

When it comes to online dating, it is perfectly okay to meet a number of people at once. In fact, it is even a smart move because online dating site is a numbers game. There is nothing wrong with getting to know people and making a connection with them. Just make sure these people can be trusted before you even decide to go out with them. And remember that you are paying for these sites, might as well make the most of your money’s worth.

4. Make a move

It is okay to be the first one to make a move. Just make sure that when you send them that e-mail, you let them know that you have read their profile and took an interest in it. So, what you need to do is to describe whatever it is that resonated from their profile, but make sure that it is not too lengthy. If you want to get the best response rate, keep your messages short. Remember that you should spend more time with your profile and not on your first e-mail.

5. Be direct

Playing hard to get does not apply to online dating. If someone has shown their interest in you, it will not pay off to let them wait for a couple of days before you reply because by then, they might have already seen someone else. In online dating, you have to face the reality that people may be contacting more than one person at a time.

6. Exchange a few online dating e-mails before meeting

Before meeting someone in person, it is important that you exchange a number of e-mails first. The ultimate goal is to be able to know and establish a connection with someone personally so it is okay to go out on a date.

7. Look for common interests

When you try to get to know someone even through e-mails, it is better if you look for common connections. This way, you will be able to identify the things that you can do together when you meet up.

8. Wait to give out your digits

While it is more convenient to send text messages, it would be best if you will have to wait for the time when you are already comfortable with a person before you exchange phone numbers. If you are interested in a person, you can get to know them without having to give your contact information by meeting them in a public place.

9. Let the person know if you are not interested

If someone asks you out and you are not interested, you must let the person know. Just make sure you politely notify them that you would rather keep the relationship online as you’d like to get to know them better before finally giving yourself the chance to meet them in real life.
