If you are currently single, you might already be looking forward to finding the right partner whom you will be spending the rest of your life with. And if you are in this situation, you need to be able to know and understand how you will be able to attract the right kind of love.

So, how and where do you begin?

Finding the one, true, and lasting love may not be easy. Or, it could have been easy for some and quite a challenge for some others. Searching for love goes beyond beauty; it goes beyond physical attraction. If your goal is to have a lasting relationship, then you should expect that it will require hard work. There are times when you have to go through heartaches, disappointments, and bad days but all of these are just normal parts of a relationship.

So, before you even start falling in love and be in a serious relationship, it is always best to know the things that you should be expecting like some relationship issues. And if you know that you are ready for all these things, here are some ways to help attract real love into your life:

1. Start by loving yourself

If you want to attract the right love into your life, you need to first realize your value, your self-worth. By doing this, you will be able to understand yourself better and deeper. When you evaluate yourself, you will learn that you want a higher standard for yourself because you want to be a better person. That is when you will realize how you want your future partner to treat and value you too.

If you fail to realize your value, other people won’t realize your value as well. And this is the point when people will start abusing you, which will only result in unhealthy relationships.

2. Have realistic expectations

Once you begin knowing and understanding yourself better, there is a good chance that you will also be expecting the same thing from your partner, and that is what you have to avoid. Real love is about understanding and accepting each other’s flaws and differences. You cannot always expect your partner to always agree or have the same opinion and choices as you.

Expectations are one of the roots of misunderstandings and arguments in any relationship. People who expect a lot end up getting disappointed and frustrated. On the other hand, there is also nothing wrong with opening up about the things that you are expecting from your partner. Trust and understanding are the fruits of being honest and open to each other.

3. Get comfortable with your own company

After realizing your self-worth, you need to start feeling content with your own company. And what does it mean? It means that you should not rely on anybody for your own happiness or loneliness. Whatever and however you feel depend on you alone. If you become comfortable being alone, you will not have a difficult time dealing with relationship problems when they arise in the future.

4. Know what you want

Choose the kind of partner who is on the same page with you—the one who shares the same visions and the same goals when it comes to relationships. Otherwise, you are just wasting each other’s time. If you are looking for a lifetime partner, you have to know early on the qualities you’d like them to have as well as your expectations so that you won’t end up getting upset, hurt, or disappointed. After all, we all have the freedom to choose the right person for us.

5. Understand the meaning of real love

You have to understand that infatuation is different from love. When a person is infatuated, they only look at the things they like about the person, including the looks. But when they get to discover the other person’s weaknesses and flaws, the feeling fades away and they are no longer interested, and that is not love. Real love knows how to look beyond the person’s imperfections and appreciates both strengths and weaknesses of the other person. Love is patient, understanding, giving, and forgiving.
