He told me that another manager in that company had been working there for 24 years, but her annual salary was still in the low fifties. When the employer said, “This is the standard salary for store managers,” he said, “But I’m not the standard employee.” Towards the end of his employment with that employer, he negotiated for a higher salary as well.

That happened because he believed in his worth. After he resigned from that men’s wear brand, he joined the company that I was working for. After I sent my resignation letter to my employer, my manager asked him if he wanted my job. He literally told me that he would have my job only if the terms and conditions were right. In life, you don’t get what you deserve; you only get what you negotiate for.
